At the YMCA, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill that everyone at any age or ability should have the opportunity to learn. When you learn to swim, you gain confidence and acquire the water safety skills needed to enjoy activities in and around water!
CLASSES ARE AVAILABLE FOR ALL AGES, LEVELS & ABILITIES
- Parent-Tot: 6 – 36 months accompanied by an adult
- Preschool: 2 – 5 years
- School Age: 6 – 12 years
- Teen-Adult: 13 years & up
- Gator Academy: 4 – 12 years (level 6 advanced swim lessons)
- Special Needs Adaptive Lessons: 2 years & up
- Private Lessons: 5 years & up
Cancellations
The YMCA reserves the right to cancel classes due to less than minimum registration. (must have 2 participants to hold a class) Cancellation decisions will be made the day prior to the start of class. Attempts will be made to reach those registering by phone and email to inform them of cancellation. Should the YMCA need to cancel a class, a full refund or credit will be issued to those registered for the program. If a class is cancelled due to weather conditions, the Y will make up the cancelled class. Once the class has started, with no notification, we have a NO REFUND POLICY!
Makeup Policy
Program participants register for classes on specific dates and times. Unless the YMCA cancels a class, and provides for a makeup, attendance in scheduled classes is the responsibility of the participant. We cannot provide makeup classes or allow the participant to attend a different class.

GATOR ACADEMY
GATOR ACADEMY 1:8 instructor to participant ratio
Session: TUESDAY & THURSDAY 3:00-4:00pm (8) 1 Hour Lessons a Session
Requirements to register for Gator Academy: have at least 2 identifiable swim strokes and swim the length of the pool without stopping and tread water for 30 seconds.
*Must have at least 2 participants to hold the class*
Gator Academy is a level 6 advanced swim lesson. In this stage, students refine stroke technique on all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, diving and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle. Gator Academy is the pathway to join our competitive year round swim team, the Greenwood YMCA Gators!

Each class is a 1 Hour Lesson with 45 minutes of instruction and 15 minutes of fun!
Register for as many classes as you and your child would like to attend!

Accompanied by a parent*, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision.
Stage Descriptions:
A /Water Discovery: Introduces infants and toddlers to the aquatic environment.
B / Water Exploration: Focuses on exploring body positions, blowing bubbles, and fundamental safety and aquatic skills.
* We define parent broadly to include all adults with primary responsibility for raising children, including biological parents, adoptive parents, guardians, stepparents, grandparents, or any other type of parenting relationship*
